I Luv Organizing -- "Not Your Ordinary Organizer"
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I want to organize my home. Where do I begin?
Getting started can be the most difficult part of home organizing! Many people never get beyond just thinking about it. And those who do start often get discouraged when they realize how large the project actually is and how long it will take to complete. One positive step is to hire a Professional Organizer.
I feel like I should be able to do this myself. Why is it so hard?
You may feel overwhelmed. You may not know where to start. You may feel like you don’t have the necessary time. You may think it is too expensive. These are all very valid reasons, but think of our time together as an investment to save you time, money and your sanity for years to come. Will it take time? Yes. Will it be fun? You would be surprised. Will it be worth it? Absolutely!
What is a Professional Organizer?
A Professional Organizer is a specialist who helps people create order where it is lacking so they can make long-term improvements, keep disorder at bay, and enjoy their space once again. He/she sorts, declutters, organizes, and beautifies your environment in order to make it a more enjoyable place to live, leaving you with systems in place to help you maintain your home or office in an up-to-date and organized fashion. See my Blog piece on the "Top 7 Myths of Professional Organizing."
What takes place at the In-Home Consultation?
I evaluate your space as-is. We discuss problems you have with your space, what works for you and what doesn't. We discuss your organizing goals and how to meet them. We discuss any organizing products that may be needed (most of which will likely be things you already own). And we discuss my fee. Should you decide to go forward, we schedule our first work session. Go here for further information.
How long will it take to declutter and organize my space?
Results are dependent on the size and amount of work to do in a space, how quickly you make decisions and how involved you are during our session(s). Your clutter did not accumulate over night. It does take time to make decisions about what to keep, donate, and discard. But, you will be amazed at how much better you will feel in a short period of time!
What exactly is clutter?
Clutter is anything you do not want, need, love, or use. And it takes up valuable space. How did all of this clutter materialize? We collect things for many reasons. Perhaps we think we will need them in the future (weeks, months, or years later). Maybe they have sentimental value. Maybe good money was spent on them so we feel guilty getting rid of them. We may have made a mistake by purchasing those items, and it can be difficult to come to terms with that fact. But your home is bursting at the seams and you need to purge! So what do you do? Consider hiring a Professional Organizer who can help you sort through these feelings so you can move forward with your decluttering project.
What are the benefits of home organizing?
There are many, including: Once organized, you will find yourself having more free time and less stress. You will know where things are located, saving time and avoiding headaches. You will no longer need to purchase items you already have but can't locate (thus saving money). You will be able to get dressed more quickly and look more pulled together because your closet was purged and organized. And you will not be embarrassed when unexpected visitors come to call. Also, did you know that current research has shown that living in a cluttered, unclean space can cause depression, illness and weight gain?
Do you organize home offices?
Yes, I do. Having your office decluttered and organized can save you money and allow you to be more efficient and productive. Systems can be set up for mail, calendaring, files, bill payment, and any other areas that need to be addressed. Even your filing can be be caught up. All that paper needs to be managed!
I have many things that mean a great deal to me. Would I have to get rid of them?
Absolutely not. We all want to surround ourselves with things that bring us joy. I would never ask you to give away anything that means a great deal to you. In the end, the final decision is yours.
Will you work with me or just coach me?
It’s entirely up to you. If you don’t want to touch a thing, you don’t have to; I will do it all. But if you want to help, which I highly recommend with the sorting and decluttering process, the project will get done faster and more efficiently and, in the end, save you money.
So you don't just give advice and go home?
No, I'm a hands-on Organizer. I recognize the emotional impact of the work that needs to be done, so I listen carefully, then analyze and strategize before I start. I'll roll up my sleeves and sit on the floor with you, sorting through stacks, helping you make decisions, and offering moral support. I will then organize each area, setting up systems to help keep you on track, coaching you as we go.
Will my sessions be confidential?
YES! I am all about trust: gaining, building, and maintaining it. Confidentiality and discretion are paramount. No one will even know you are a client unless you tell them. To see other guidelines I stand by, please read my Mission Statement and Code of Ethics.
Do you work on downsizing?
Yes. I work with people on the downsizing they often face due to death of a spouse, divorce, empty nest, retirement, financial struggles, etc., endeavoring to make their transitions and moves as easy as possible. When it comes to elderly folks, I treat them as I would want someone to treat my Dad: with the respect and dignity they deserve.
What is "Do It Yourself" Organizing?
Basically, it is where I consult and you do the work. I do a walk-through and assessment. On another day,we go over my written plan, I explain the process and recommend products (if any). I also respond to a limited amount of phone calls and emails. This is perfect if you want to do the work yourself but don't know where to start and need help along the way.
Do you offer other services?
Actually, yes. Please see my Services page.
How do I get started?
